Do not fly fix
Follow panel manufacturers recommended installation instructions
Do not use hammer drills
Hammer or percussion guns damage the screw point and threads and provide no feedback leading to overtightened and stripped fasteners
Do not over-tighten
Over-tightening screws can lead to stripping of the thread and distortion of the panel
The Metal Cladding and Roofing Manufacturers Association (MCRMA) has produced guidance document GD33 Fasteners for metal roof and wall cladding: design, detailing and installation guide to provide the user with a comprehensive best practice guide on the selection, use and performance of fasteners designed for popular metal roofing and cladding.
The majority of fastener-related problems encountered on site are caused by the use of incorrect installation tools. With higher tensile (harder) grades of steel increasingly used, the correct choice of tool has become even more essential in avoiding additional costs and increased installation from increased burn-out rates
